2007 - 2008 Mob Squad

Girls (Left to Right):
Lindsey Judd, Crystal Schaefer, Julie Lee, Audrey Gibson, Luz Plaatjes, Paige Evans, Antoinette DeGeorge, Rachel Bourgault, Micaela Seiden, Kate Patterson.

Boys (Left to Right):
Eppie Deleon, John Gillette, Skye Edwards, Michael Jaycox.

The 2007-8 season will be the Mob Squad's second season as a Denver Nuggets entertainment group. Their high energy hip-hop routines have quickly become a crowd favorite.

Under the direction of Kenny Jimenez and assistants Eppie Deleon and John Gillette, the routines consist of a variety of hip-hop styles, including popping-and-locking and break dance. The Mob Squad is a step above other hip-hop crews as they fuse a number of different hip-hop styles and have been known to not only perform to today’s hip-hop music, but to break into routines to the music of James Brown, Herbie Hancock, and other sounds from a variety of decades.

Jimenez’s choreography can be seen all over Denver and throughout the nation. He has choreographed and performed as a back-up dancer for numerous nationally touring acts as well as produced many of his own productions. Through his dance agency, Motion Entertainment, and his training ground of Motion Underground Dance Studio in Denver, many of Jimenez’s former students have gone on to tour with such acts as Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Madonna, Hilary Duff, Cirque Du Soleil and more.

Nuggets Dancers with artist Tone Loc - 12/8/2007

The December 8th game against the Sacramento Kings was '80s Night, and at halftime the crowd got a blast from the past: a suprise performance from one of hip-hop's founding fathers, Tone Loc! Surrounded by explosive pyrotechnics and energized dancers, Tone Loc entertained the Nuggets' crowd by performing two of his greatest hits, Funky Cold Medina and Wild Thang.

Mexico City: Mucho Gusto!

I love to travel- I am crazy about exploring new countries, experiencing a different culture, tasting new foods, and meeting new people. I spent the past five days in Mexico City where we promoted NFL Mexico and represented the Denver Broncos. I was surprised and happy to see that we have a solid fan base in Mexico City as I met many fans covered from head to toe in blue and orange.

The group consisted of myself, Melissa Lopez-Aust, Erica Weston, Terita Walker, Sara Oliver, and Lindsay McBride. Also we were very excited that alumni cheerleader Catherine McEachern was our representative. Cat did a great job keeping us on schedule, making sure that we were safe at all times, and answered all of our questions. We could not have done this trip without her!

The Broncos Cheerleaders have been very lucky in regards to traveling. While we do not travel to away games, we do have other opportunities. Our team has visited locations such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Dubai, Egypt, Barcelona, Italy, and many others. Next year, a group of thirteen will be touring Hawai’i, Japan, and Guam to perform for our troops. The group is working diligently to prepare a variety show filled with dancing, skits, games, and singing for the troops.

The Mexico City trip began with breakfast with Microsoft employees and their clients. This was particularly fun for me since I had not been able to use my Spanish for quite some time in the US. I began studying Spanish since the third grade and spent four months as a student in Spain. Breakfast was fun because I was able to chat with lots of people in Spanish. This helped me brush up on my Spanish vocabulary and prepared me for the rest of the trip.

The majority of our time was spent doing interviews, photo shoots for the Mexican media, and mall appearances where we performed several numbers. We were very appreciative to be greeted with enthusiasm from the people that we met.

Finally, I want to say thank you to the wonderful people we worked with while in Mexico: Victor, Carlos, and Fernando from Vance Security provided our transportation and made sure we were always safe, Geraldine and all of the other wonderful NFL Mexico staff who assisted with the logistics of our events, and Carlos, our outgoing and energetic emcee/comedian for all of our mall appearances. It was a pleasure to work with all of them; hopefully I’ll have the chance to visit our new friends in Mexico City again some day.

UPDATED 12/15/07 AUDITION INFORMATION!

Registration begins at 10:00 AM at Pepsi Center.
Participants will be evaluated with an opportunity to be invited to the final round.

To all those applying:

Requirements: You must be at least 21 years of age by March 2nd . There is no age limit other than this. You must have a headshot. This does not have to be a professional picture; however, it should be no smaller than a 5x7 and a clear photograph of you and only you. You must have a resume. This should simply list any performance/promotional/marketing experience you may have, along with anything else you would like the judges to know.

Please note: the auditions are closed to observers, so please leave your family and friends at home.

Audition Attire: The audition attire is a pair of jeans with a fitted top (if you are not sure what this looks like, see the picture attached). You will also need a 2 piece swim suit if you are chosen for the final round.

Please note: YOU HAVE TO WEAR SNEAKERS. Only non-marking soles will be permitted on the practice floor. Your hair and make up should be done as if you were in a performance.

Audition Format: Each applicant will need to have a one minute speech prepared that will be given in front of a panel of judges. Be prepared to tell the judges about yourselves. What exactly makes you a perfect candidate for our team? Do you have any hidden talents? Have you ever done any acting? What about modeling? Impress the judges with your personality and speaking abilities.

There will be two more workshops included in the process: one will be a photo shoot, where you can show your best shot, and the other will be a video interview, where you will be able to practice your speech in front of the camera.

**It is best to not make any other plans for the day as there is no exact time for the audition to end.

Time Commitment: The time commitment during the season is between 4 and 20 hours a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less. During the AFL season, meetings will be held once a week in the evenings.

There will be a mandatory training camp held either the end of January or the beginning of February (dates TBD).

All those selected for the team will be required attend the training camp with no exceptions. Games are played on both weekday and weekend evenings.

On game days, the Crush Girls are required to arrive at the arena 2 hours prior to game time. The position is not full time. All of the Crush Girls are either full-time students, or have full/part time jobs. The position is paid on a per game/per appearance basis and there are other forms of compensation as well.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How many Crush Girls do you take?

Q: How many spots are open?
A: All of them

Q: I can't make it on December 15th. Is there any other way to "audition"?

Ski Season has arrived!

For those of you who have never been World Cup ski racing event, I highly suggest you check one out in Colorado!! This last weekend was my first experience watching the spectacle even though I am a native, and it will definitely not be my last.

I headed up to Vail/Beaver Creek around noon on Saturday, and after making it through the complete white out over Vail pass, I coasted into the village and was ready for the excitement to ensue.

I don’t know much about ski racing but I do know about former US Ski Team member Bode Miller. That’s exactly who I was there to cheer on. Bode is a world re-noun racer who may be more recognizable for his exit from the US team only to venture out and form his own team, solo, on his own terms.

Bode was in CO for the Birds of Prey Downhill race, which is the marquee event for skiing in the Beaver Creek World Cup event. The specific event is one of the top 5 downhill courses in the world. It is a double black diamond run and is scary enough when you are skiing slowly, so you can just imagine it going 95 mph. Crazy!!! Last year Bode won it as a US Ski Team member, and this year as a member of his own team, “Team America” he took 6th.

Bode barely missed a podium place after the slalom portion of the super combined event, and had the 18th fastest time in the slalom. Next was competing in the Super G, the highlight, on Sunday. First he had to throw a party at Rocks in Beaver Creek along with one of his sponsors, Head skis.

I can attest that fans of skiing as well as most of the racers themselves know how to throw a good party! This year that did not include Mr. Miller who is making a strong effort to be on his best behavior. I on the other hand was not. Sunday was beautiful but brutal! J

Now that Bode is making a respectable name for himself again he is busy man. He is traveling to New York today to do some PR work as he continues the World Cup run, and is unavailable to pay a little visit on Mile High Sports Radio (he promises he will next time!!).

Tune in today to Drive Time Sports to listen to a former teammate of Bode’s chat about him, but also speak about his personal amazing comeback to the sport after a devastating accident. Dial into AM 1510 at 5pm for the “Who is in Renee’s Cell Phone” segment of the show.

Ciao and Cheers until next time!

Renee (12/4/2007)
