Colorado Icicles Announce Audition Date

Fort Collins, CO - The Colorado Ice will be conducting open auditions for the Icicles Dance team on Saturday, January 28th, 2012 at Dancer’s Ascent of the Outlets in Loveland; with check-in starting at 1:00pm. Dancer’s Ascent is located at 5657 McWhinney Blvd., Loveland, CO 80538.

The Colorado Icicles are professional dancers that provide exciting and fun entertainment during all Colorado Ice home games. Icicle dancers are also actively involved in the community, taking part in Ice appearances at community events, fundraisers, post-game parties, and other activities throughout Northern Colorado.

Participants must be at least 21 years of age by March 4th, 2012, have some dance experience and be able to commit to weekly rehearsals, games and related team functions. Individuals auditioning should wear spandex shorts, tights, a spandex bra top and some type of dance shoes.

Pre-registration is $25 if paid by January 25th, 2012. Fee after January 25th – day of audition will be $30. Payment can be by Check until January 23rd, Credit Card until January 27th and Cash day of. If paying day of audition, bring $30 cash (exact cash). Checks and credit cards will not be accepted on the day of audition.

Nuggets dancer finds adrenaline rush inside, outside the arena

For a self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie, it seemed only appropriate to celebrate a milestone birthday at 18,000 feet.
And at 17,000 feet … 16,000 feet … 15,000 feet … 14,000 feet …

Denver Nuggets Dancer Chelsea doesn’t look like your stereotypical daredevil, but there she was jumping out of an airplane on her 21st birthday alongside her mom, dad and best friend. In the spring, she plans to take another jump with her 65-year-old grandfather.

“It’s not what you would expect,” Chelsea said. “It’s not as scary as you would think.”

The fear factor is minimal for someone who enjoys whitewater rafting in the Colorado mountains and jumping off 30-foot cliffs at Rock Island State Park in her home state of Tennessee. Those outdoor activities still take a back seat to the thrill of the NBA stage.

“Thousands of people screaming, the energy that you feel, there’s nothing like it,” Chelsea said. “When it’s the playoffs and there’s seven seconds left on the clock and we win, that’s the most exhilarating feeling I’ve ever had – even over skydiving.”

Now in her third season on the Nuggets dance team, Chelsea (pronounced Chel-SEE-uh) has a schedule to match her outgoing personality.

She is taking 18 credit hours at Arapahoe Community College and will continue pursuing her business marketing degree at Metro State College in the spring; she coaches the junior varsity pom squad at Castle View High School; she practices twice a week with the Nuggets dancers; and she helps conduct in-home jewelry parties as part of her job with Premier Design Jewelers.

“It’s healthy to be busy,” Chelsea said. “It teaches you good lessons about time management.”

As a veteran on the 2011-12 Nuggets dance team, Chelsea takes pride in sharing those lessons with her teammates.

“As a rookie, it’s all a learning experience,” she said. “When you come back your second and third year, you know where things are and how to organize things. You’re more prepared. That makes for a better season.”

Chelsea and the Nuggets dancers have been able to bond this fall through community appearances, practices and social gatherings. In addition to being full-time students or full-time employees – sometimes both – Nuggets dancers typically practice three times a week and make dozens of community appearances throughout the season.

"When people get know us, they find out that we’re very sincere and genuine," Chelsea said. "We have to work for what we’ve earned.”

If the busy schedule isn’t enough to keep Chelsea grounded, her birthday certainly offers perspective. Born on Sept. 11, 1990, her annual celebration changed forever when America came under attack and the World Trade Center came crashing down on her 11th birthday.

“It’s even a little more in my heart,” Chelsea said. “I remember that day so vividly. My mom and I always give our thanks and pray for those families every birthday. It’s a celebration but in the back of your mind, it’s a tragic day.”

Every Sept. 11, Chelsea and her mom – a longtime member of the Air Force – attend a memorial service before the birthday celebration begins. The parties are typically not centered around cake-and-ice cream.

After all, it’s impossible to light the candles while plummeting from 18,000 feet.

After year off, Nuggets dancer brings smile back to NBA

The lure of the NBA can be a powerful thing.

Littleton native Jana learned just how powerful when she took a year off from the Denver Nuggets Dancers to focus on school and her modeling career. Though she enjoyed attending Nuggets games at Pepsi Center in 2010-11, it just wasn’t the same.

“When you’re in uniform, everyone wants to talk to you,” she said. “When you smile, they smile back. When you go to a game in normal clothes and smile at everyone, they’re like, ‘What are you smiling at?’ ”

Naturally, Jana flashes a smile as she finishes her sentence. It’s easy to see how much she is enjoying her return to the Nuggets dance team for 2011-12.

“I missed it a lot,” she said. “It keeps you in shape and gives you something to work on constantly. Modeling, you just show up, wear what you’re supposed to wear and leave.” Jana, 22, started dancing when she was about 7 years old. Her mother was looking for an outlet for her daughter’s seemingly unlimited energy.

“My mom just wanted me to calm down,” Jana said. “I was running around the house, singing all the time. She asked me if I wanted to do soccer, but I’m not good at sports, so she put me in dance.”

Jana joined Cherry Creek Dance and got her first taste of the NBA experience when her studio performed at halftime of a Nuggets game. She later danced for the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse and joined the Denver Nuggets Dancers in 2009.

“Her experience on the Outlaws dance team and on the 09-10 Denver Nuggets Dancers, as well as the dance studio training she has received, have helped Jana become a very talented and diverse performer,” said Denver Nuggets Dancers coordinator and choreographer Amy Jo Wagner. “She has great technique and performance ability.”

Wagner also noted Jana’s friendly and outgoing personality. She developed a knack for socializing while growing up as the third-youngest of 16 children. Needless to say, handling ticket requests is one of her biggest challenges as a Nuggets dancer.

“It’s a wrestling match,” she said.

Jana currently is finishing up her course work at Metro State College, and she works full-time as a sales coordinator for an office furniture company. Her goal is to eventually open her own studio and help other aspiring young dancers.

“You can mold people and fill your heart a little bit,” she said.

For now, Jana is enjoying the connections she makes with young fans at community appearances around the Denver area. They give her flashbacks to her first year with the Nuggets in 2009-10.

“The little girls are my favorite because they come up to you and have stars in their eyes,” she said. “If you just tell them your name and ask their name, that makes their whole day.”

And it gives Jana another reason to smile.

Hey Broncos Country, Sam here. I can’t believe that it’s already November! I’m sure many of you have already ripped through your bags of Halloween candy and eaten up all the good stuff. Soon after the tummy aches and sugar highs subside, it seems that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. But before moving on to turkey and stuffing, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie (have I made your mouth water yet?), I want to back up a step and let you all in on some great haunted tales of the creepiest, craziest, and funniest Halloween—JDBC style.

As a reminder, JDBC stands for Junior Denver Broncos Cheerleaders. This year marks my first year as a JDBC instructor. JDBC is a dance and cheerleading program for girls ages 6-14. About once or twice a month, the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders get together with the JDBC girls for a clinic where we all learn dance routines, practice good teamwork and have a lot of fun!!

This year, we held our annual JDBC Halloween clinic on October 29. Every DBC that is an instructor dressed up in costume. From Cat in the Hat to Tinkerbelle to Michael Jackson, there were creative costumes chosen by each DBC. Some funny two-person costumes included Thing 1 and Thing 2 and Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. I dressed up as Wenda, a character from the Where’s Waldo? book series. It was fun seeing each other dressed up, but the kids definitely stole the spotlight with their creativity.

Since I am an instructor for the 6-to 8-year-old group, I’ll tell you about the fun games we played. Well, we most certainly had a costume contest! A few JDBC girls were chosen from each of the seven squads to take the stage and show off their most creative costumes for the chance to win a special prize. All of the contestants looked fabulous—whether they were cute, creepy, scary, or enchanting—but ultimately the winners had to be selected. Our most creative costume awards went to six JDBC girls that had dressed up as Medusa, the Candy Fairy, Mulan, Cotton Candy, the Deranged Cheerleader, and last but not least, the Duckbilled Platypus. Extra kudos to the girls that made their costumes from scratch!

The game that I think the JDBC girls most enjoyed was up next. This game, unofficially named “Mummify your DBC Cheerleader”, was, well, what I’m sure most teenage boys would prefer to do to an unsuspecting house. Each squad was given two rolls of toilet paper to wrap and drape and stick to their DBC instructor in any way they could to best mummify her before the music stopped. I remember it was a dizzying whirl of TP frantically being wrapped and looped round and round by tiny hands, encircling arms and legs and heads. After the madness was over and the giggles quieted down, my girls definitely got a kick out of how funny I looked. After each DBC was fully clad as a mummy, we all were then required to have a mummy dance-off contest. Silly enough, I won for the best “Robot Mummy Dance”. Don’t ask. Ha.

Aside from all the games, costumes, and dancing, there was one particular event of the entire JDBC Halloween Clinic that blew every other special part out of the water. I’m talking about the secret performance by the Head JDBC Instructors. Unfortunately, this show was not open to the public, but it should have been! All the Head JDBC Instructors (including some amazing DBC Alumni) choreographed a spectacular show to perform for the JDBC girls as a special Halloween treat. The theme was “Music through the Decades”. They had it all down to a tee…impersonations of (and this is only a list of a few): Elvis, Saturday Night Fever, AC/DC, Michael Jackson, MC Hammer, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, and even a huge finale dance routine as LMFAO! They had costumes, wigs, dance moves, acting, props, you name it! To say the least, it was pretty awesome.

I hope you all were at the October 30th home game and had the chance to see the pre-game Halloween performance by the JDBC girls alongside your own Denver Broncos Cheerleaders. We had a lot of fun acting like monsters and zombies and dancing to some classic Halloween favorites. I hope you enjoyed it too! Next up will be a very special holiday performance by the JDBC girls at Sports Authority Field at Mile High to wish everyone Happy Holidays. So get ready for another great show! I’ll see you then. The Wild Bunch Dancers gave “no guts, no glory” a whole new meaning during their practice Wednesday night at Forza Fitness and Performance Club in downtown Denver. The 18 finalists endured an intense workout and rehearsal session that would have made Tony Horton proud.

The lovely ladies kicked off the evening with an intense 45 minute cardio and strength training session that incorporated stairs, sprints, lunges, balance balls, killer ab work, and a few push-ups thrown in just for fun.

Then, before you could say "H20" it was time for some deep stretching before dance rehearsal kicked into full swing. The ladies are learning a routine for the new Mammoth season, but more importantly, they’re showing the coaches if they have what it takes to walk on the wild side. Only 14 of the 18 finalists will be selected for the squad, which is expected to be announced this Friday.

If it was up to Metromix all these dancers would be hitting the dance floor in 2012. Ladies: We salute you with two high kicks, a twirl and splits (and now that we’ve done that, we’re really hoping there’s some ice packs left in the Metromix fridge..OUCH!!). —Laura Kelley, Special to Metromix.

Fresh Faces, Seasoned Vets Named Wild Bunch Finalists

The Colorado Mammoth announced today that 18 dancers have been named finalists for the 2012 Wild Bunch team. Six of the 18 are veterans, while 12 aspire to make the roster for the first time. More than five dozen women participated in auditions this past weekend with hopes of securing one of 14 spots.

The Wild Bunch performs at all Colorado Mammoth home games on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center, and also makes various community and special event appearances throughout the year. Dancers who make the squad work hard to embody the spirit and brand of the Mammoth both on and off the field.

Wild Bunch finalists are competing in training camp at FORZA Fitness and Performance Club, with the final roster expected to be announced at the end of the week.

The Colorado Mammoth's Wild Bunch Dancers began the search for their newest batch of dancers Friday night. Girls lined up outside the Pepsi Center Friday to show off their dancing skills for the chance to become one of the top picks. This was just the preliminary auditions — the dancers will be whittled down to a lucky few that will then head onto the semi-finals this weekend.

Eagles Chicks host Loveland tryouts, hire 11 dancers for upcoming season

Come October, the Colorado Eagles hockey team hits the ice for the start of another season. When it does, its players will have 11 new greatest fans.

The Eagles Chicks, the team's cheerleading squad, hosted tryouts Sunday at an ice-free and eerily quiet Budweiser Events Center.

And though the name was the same, Budweiser felt different for some of the more than 20 women who turned out.

"It's weird to see the stands so empty today," said 20-year-old Alysia Kamarath. "The fans make it worthwhile."

The junior Colorado State University communications major bore the title of Eagles Chick last season and was back for another go.

Also a former Eagle Chick looking to return, University of Colorado's Kerry Anne Keogh stood near Kamarath during one of several brief breaks throughout the hours-long tryouts. At 5-foot-10, Keogh played lacrosse, basketball and volleyball in high school.

She then got into dance, thanks to her friends.

In her experience dancing for other sports teams, fans were abrasive; they yelled inappropriate things, she said. But that's not the case with the Eagles.

"We just have the best fans," she said. "I've always felt so welcomed in this building."

As part of tryouts, the women -- ages 18 to 24 -- learned two dances and interviewed with a panel of judges.

In any one season, they learn one or two dance routines a week. That's upward of 30 per season, said former Eagles Chick and team choreographer Alyssa Pohm (or Stanton, after she marries on Saturday).

"It is intense," she said, as 16 dancers -- down from 23 after first-round elimination -- practiced steps over and over again to The Black Eyed Peas' "Don't Stop the Party." What makes it more difficult is that many of the dances will go into what Pohm called "the vault," or memory, for possible future use.

"You learn it, perfect it, and you're done," she said.

Rumors the Eagles would move to the East Coast Hockey League came true in May when head coach and general manager Chris Stewart announced the team would play as an ECHL expansion franchise for the 2011-12 season.

As a result, the team's schedule ramped up and puts the players on ice at home at the Budweiser Events Center more than 30 times, starting in October. The dancers do not travel with the team when it skates elsewhere.

Pohm said the team's increasing success has definitely attracted more talent to and interest in the dance squad.

"I hope to just keep that forward momentum, in terms of rigor and commitment of the team members," said Erica Koehler, the Eagles Chicks new dance manager. A member of the team a few years back, Koehler takes the place of Lisa Kennedy.

"You have something to live up to," she told the dancers sitting on the bleachers before the start of tryouts.

Kayla Christian, 19, studies sport exercise science at the University of Northern Colorado and loves the energy of a big athletic event. And hockey, she said, brings something special to the table.

"It's just such a raw sport to watch," Christian said, taking a break before the second performance set.

A sophomore, Christian would like to pursue a short career in professional dance for sports teams, but plans to work as a physical therapist for professional athletes.

Until then, she's focused on supporting a team she loves.

"I call myself an Eagles fan, of course!" she said, laughing. Then she descended the bleacher stairs on the center's south side and joined her colleagues for another tryout performance.

Denver Broncos Cheerleaders set hearts racing

Broncos Cheerleaders Calendar release heats up the track

The Denver Broncos cheerleaders traded in their pom poms for racing helmets Friday night as they kicked off their 2012 Calendar Release with a little friendly competition.

The lovely ladies met up with their fans at The Track at Centennial for a little go-kart racing. Hundreds of people showed up to the event, which raised money for the Keeping Kids on Track Program. Money raised goes to help at-risk youth who are members of the Tennyson Center for Children and The Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

Before gearing up to hit the track, the beauties spent some time with their fans putting their Jane Hancocks on that steamy 2012 calendar (and yes, we even snagged one to put up in our Metromix office because You know, for the kids). Overall, it was a successful night with the ladies giving the pros a run for their money on the track (if you think these girls can throw a mean high kick on the field you should see them going 60 mph around the track).

The Colorado Eagles announced today that auditions for the 2011-12 edition of the Pioneer Press Colorado Eagles Chicks will take place on Sunday, August 28th at 10:30 a.m. at the Budweiser Events Center*.

We're looking for young women who are dynamic, well-spoken, and talented to represent our organization and to continue our established level of excellence. The Eagles Chicks were recently voted the third-best pro cheerleading squad in Colorado!

Cheerleader Calendar Shoot: Zip Line

Hey Fans!!!

WOW!!!! Our trip to Vail for our 2012 Calendar has been a blast! It couldn’t be a more perfect place to shoot a calendar that really represents our beautiful state of Colorado.

After a busy first 2 days of shoots, we decided to take a break and have a little fun as a team. What better activity is there for this than zip lining?! We all packed into four cars, and made our way to 4-Eagle Ranch in Wolcott, Colorado (a little town about 30 minutes west of Vail) where Zip Adventures of Vail is based. This ranch is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. There is a display of old cabins and rustic ranch equipment which are carefully placed around the ranch, stunning views of fields and mountains (including the New York Mountains), and a variety of critters that live there- horses, pigs, alpaca, donkeys, chickens, goats, a buffalo, dogs, and barn cats. (We end up taking a couple of our photos there on Day 4 which turned out to be incredible- check them out!) Once we arrived, we signed our waivers and harnessed up!

The guides took us out to the course in a 1973 Pinzgauer, which is a 6 x 6, 12 person military troop transporter that was made for the Swiss Alps.

The course consists of a total of six zip lines. The first five lines string back and forth across the canyon becoming faster, longer, and higher as you progress. The sixth zip line takes you from the end of the course, all the way back to the beginning by going through the canyon. The highest zip line is 200 feet above the canyon floor, the fastest zip gets up to 35 mph, and the longest is about 1000 feet long! It’s a ton of fun!!!!

My favorite part about our zip line adventure was the tandem zips that we did! There are a couple of zip lines that allowed us to partner up and zip together. I have never ‘giggled’ so much in my life! I was partnered up with Becky and we couldn’t stop laughing the whole way…. SOOO FUN! (Even the guides were making fun of us for laughing so much!)

A couple of the girls were really fun to watch: Margaret was doing all sorts of acrobatic moves in the middle of the canyon. She was quite the dare-devil! Lelanna and Jess were very nervous at first (you could tell by the look on their faces as they walked up to the first zip), but they did it and had a blast! Michelle, who zipped last year at Zip Adventures, was now working on her steering skills… I think she finally managed that by the third zip! Becky was not only practicing her high kicks in mid air, but she was also able to fit her ab workout in during her trip across the canyon.

Once we all finished, the guides drove us back to the ranch where we unharnessed. It couldn’t have been a more perfect afternoon. I think our pictures show that!!! It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip.

Wild Bunch Team Auditions Announced

The Colorado Mammoth has announced that Wild Bunch dance team auditions will be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 17-18, at Pepsi Center. Finalists will then participate in training camp at FORZA Fitness & Performance Club for the next two weeks, with the 14-dancer team to be unveiled at the end of September.

“For the past few years, I’ve been amazed at the quality of dancers who audition to become members of the Wild Bunch,” said Amy Jo Wagner, the team’s coordinator and choreographer. “It’s been an extremely competitive tryout, and I envision this year will be no different.”

The Wild Bunch performs at all Mammoth home games, and also appears at community and special events throughout the year.

“Above and beyond their ability to dance, these young ladies are brand ambassadors for the organization and do a tremendous job representing the Mammoth both in-arena and at appearances,” said Mammoth President and General Manager Steve Govett.

Those interested in trying out for the Wild Bunch must be at least 18 years of age and be able to commit to all 2012 home games. More audition information can be found here.

Nuggets Dancers Roster Finalized

The lights drop. The pulsating music begins. The adrenaline rush kicks in.
At that moment, the countless hours of repetition and rehearsal all become worthwhile.

“It almost gives you chills and brings tears to your eyes,” said Miranda, a Denver Nuggets Dancer. “You think, ‘This is so cool. This is what we’ve been practicing and working so hard for.’ ”

After two days of auditions and four training-camp sessions, Miranda was among the 17 women named Monday as 2011-12 Denver Nuggets Dancers. The team consists of eight veterans and nine rookies, including an 18-year-old two months removed from her high-school graduation.

“The girls worked extremely hard for two weeks,” said Denver Nuggets Dancers coordinator and choreographer Amy Jo Wagner. “Everyone did a phenomenal job. The 17 we chose showed they can dance in sync, pick up choreography very quickly and have the work ethic needed to make it through a long and strenuous NBA season.”

Miranda, 21, proved her ability and endurance as a Denver Nuggets Dancer during the 2009-10 season. She left the team last season after being one of four people selected from 500 applicants to teach dance in Japan as part of the National Dance Alliance.

For more than a month, Miranda spent in excess or 12 hours a day training dancers for Japanese professional sports teams in cities such as Chiba, Tokyo and Yokohama.

“We had a translator, but the cool thing about dancing is you don’t really need to talk or learn a language. You just need your eyes to learn,” she said. “It was different whenever I went out and about. There was nothing in English. I had some freak-out moments and ended up in several different cities I wasn’t supposed to be in.”

Miranda got a reminder of home while conducting clinics for children at U.S. military bases in Tokyo. She also was able to be a tourist after her teaching was complete; climbing 12,389-foot Mount Fuji was one of her favorite highlights.

“The town up there looks like a Colorado mountain town,” she said. “You walk around five or six lakes and you gradually make your way up the mountain. It took a full day. It was amazing. That altitude was pretty brutal.”

Altitude is nothing new for Miranda, a marketing and communications major at Metro State. The Arvada West alumnus grew up in Colorado and started dancing competitively at age 6.

“No one in my family can dance,” she said. “My brother was a really good wrestler, but I couldn’t pick up any other sport. I tried soccer, and it was super-tragic. I can’t run, so I just stuck with dance.”

Miranda’s career goal is to become a police department spokesperson, but she hopes to stick around the Nuggets organization for a few more years. She enjoys representing the team in the community and is determined to prove that dancers have substance to complement their style.

“I always get asked, ‘So do you think you’re better than everybody else?’ It bothers me,” she said. “People assume that you think you’re better than everybody else when the majority of most of these women are so down to earth. Some of the friendships I’ve made will last forever.”

Wagner, entering her fifth season with the Nuggets, can attest to that. She was a member of the Phoenix Suns dance team and knows that team chemistry is an important ingredient for a successful dance team.

“I’m extremely happy to have Miranda back with us,” Wagner said. “She’s an excellent hip-hop dancer, an all-around friendly girl and a great overall representative of our organization.”

Now that training camp is over, Miranda can’t wait to get started again in the fall. She will juggle a class schedule with a dance schedule that includes 10 to 12 hours of practice every week.

She will exercise, follow a healthy diet and memorize dozens of new routines.

And when the lights go down at the Pepsi Center, she will enjoy the moment when that familiar adrenaline rush kicks in.

2012 Calendar Shoot: Day 5

Today is Day 5 and I have decided to sleep in. My photo shoot was scheduled for early morning on day 6, so I was going to take advantage of the extremely comfortable beds at the Ritz Carlton. I hear a knock at my door. Naturally, I ignored it. Its Sunday 9 a.m. and the person knocking clearly has the wrong room. The knock continues and I got out of bed to answer it. Two of my teammates, Allyson and Margaret, are at the door. They inform me that my photo shoot has been changed to today. My first thought was “No big deal, I am just going to roll with the punches.” Plus, the crew was already shooting at the first location so I assumed I wouldn’t have my shoot until later in the day. My second was to get back into my bed. No more than five minutes later I hear another knock at the door. I get up and it’s Allyson again telling me that I have to be on location for my photo shoot ready to go in less than one hour. I thought she was joking around, but when I started to wake up a bit, I picked up on her sense of urgency. Ultimately, I decided that if I wanted to have my calendar photo taken I should probably get out of bed sooner than later.

I am not going to lie to you Broncos country, I had an overwhelming feeling of panic when I shut the door the second time. I wasn’t prepared to take my photo today. I will spare you the details but trust me friends, I needed more time than one hour! I had made it a personal goal to take the best photo I could. I was worried that being rushed was going to ruin that goal. My panic stopped when I reminded myself, that there are real problems in the world and having to rush around for a couple of hours to have my photo taken was not one of them. So, I got some coffee, I got over myself, and in less than one hour I was ready to depart to the location for my photo shoot.

A short car ride later I arrived at a beautiful house called “The Ski Castle” located in Arrowhead Colorado. I was warmly welcomed by the home owners Scott & Janie Cliver. I was honored to meet some of their family and enjoy the delicious coffee cake and cookies that Janie had made for our entire crew. After arriving at the home I had the opportunity to watch three of my teammates take their photos. The first shot of the day was third year veteran Katie Kosters. She was breathtaking in her gold suit standing in the main arch way of the home. Katie’s smile lights up the room and it ended up being a wonderful way to start the day. Next up was one of our rookies Patricia. Patricia’s photo was taken in a fantastic brick waterfall that was located on the back deck of the home. As I watched Patricia I was blown away by her ability to take the direction from Rob, our photographer. She looked beautiful and I was so proud of her. Last but not least, was second year veteran Lelanna. The setting for Lelanna’s photo was the Grotto located inside the home. The grotto area, for those of us without them, is basically an indoor hot tub. It was all stone, had a waterfall, and the most inviting seating area. Lelanna wore a red suit and looked absolutely amazing.

I blinked and I was up next. It was now or never and I said a little prayer as I walked up the stairs for my shoot. I took my photo on the “Romeo and Juliet” balcony located in the front of the home. I wore a navy blue laced monokini (it is a real word, I am not making it up) and I was put at ease when my coaches and a couple of my teammates were there to cheer me on. With the help of them and the crew I started to relax. I had a blast and the photo turned out beautifully with the architecture of the home and mountains as my back drop. Scott and Janie even jumped in and took a couple photos with me!

After we got back to the Ritz, I went downstairs to the lobby and caught some of Sam’s photo shoot taking place in the hotel bar area. Sam is a second year veteran and professional model. Sam looked flawless in her sequined black suit and sliver heels. As I watched Sam I was thinking two things; I can’t believe someone’s legs actually look like that in real life, and Sam is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.

As an avid “planner” I realized being rushed every once in a while isn’t always a bad thing. If I hadn’t shot on day 5 I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet the Cliver family. I also wouldn’t have been able to take a moment to be reminded of the true beauty of each one of my teammates. My teammates and coaches talked me through my anxiety and put my mind at ease. It was with the love and support of my Broncos family that I made it through my rushed day, and made my third calendar experience my most successful.

2012 Calendar Shoot: Day 4

Day on the Ranch – Day 4

Day 4 was a big day with 6 cheerleaders all prepared to capture their perfect shot. The morning began with an early 4 am call time for hair and make-up to make the 5:45 am departure. Nikki and Katie W. traveled to a private residence with a gorgeous view and spectacular pool. It was a cloudy and chilly morning and the girls were freezing, but the shoot must go on! Katie W. was first and looked stunning as she layed poolside in her Blue and Orange bikini. Time was not our side today because we were fighting the clouds and rain all day. By the time Katie W. wrapped up her shot, it was time to head back to the hotel, and Nikki’s shoot was pushed back to the afternoon. But first both girls had to jump in the hot tub to rejuvenate their bodies from the cold.

The day continued back at the Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch were the next group of cheerleaders were getting ready for our next location. Nikki, Kim, Jenna, Lauren H. and Jess all headed back out to 4 Eagle Ranch and spent the day as “cowgirls” YEE HAW!
Nikki started us off as our “Patriotic Cowgirl” complete with her red bikini, American Flag and of course her rustic cowboy boots. She looked adorable and stunningly beautiful as she saluted to our soldiers.

Next to shoot was Kim as our “Flamin’ Hot Cowgirl” cozied up on the porch with her black hat and boots and the fire roasting in the background.

Mid-afternoon the clouds finally rolled over and opened up a gorgeous backdrop for our next shoot. Jenna, our “All-American Rodeo Cowgirl” headed out to the pastures for her scenic shot. She rounded up her Palomino horse named Tony while strutting her “daisy dukes” and classic cowboy hat.

Lauren H. was our “Barbie Doll Cowgirl” all “dolled up” in her pink and white polka dot bikini and of course, our infamous white cowboy boots! Her playful and cute personality shined as she captured her photo on the ranch’s swing set.

Our day wrapped up with Jess, our “Frontier Cowgirl” as she posed perfectly in an old, wooden wagon. Her black and white themed bikini and cowboy boots fit great with the ambiance and setting while capturing a rustic, cowgirl shot.

In true Broncos fashion, our “cowgirl” cheerleaders and crew had a great, successful day on the ranch!

2012 Calendar Shoot: Day 3

Another beautiful morning here in Beaver Creek! We start today with our first shot at the famous Holden Cabin right on the Beaver Creek Golf Course. Becky is our first model of the day and our first western theme. Shepler’s Western Wear provided us some really beautiful cowboys boots and hats for this year’s calendar shoot that are perfect for quite a few of our locations. We loaded up the cars for the quick drive from Bachelor’s Gulch to Beaver Creek (just around the corner), unload our staff and equipment and get started. We have a 9 a.m. deadline to finish before the first round of golfers make their way to hole 14, right where we are shooting at Holden Cabin. Becky is stunning and in incredible shape. Her job requires it as the Director of Fitness for a local fitness company and a Broncos Cheerleader. I love the setting of her photo and the way that it captures the feel of Beaver Creek.

Next up on the schedule was Tristan, one of our rookies. Anderson Cabin, right around the corner from the Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch, was the setting for her photo. For Tristan, we decided on a snow shot and borrowed some really cool white furry Tecnica boots to complete her outfit. Right in the middle of her photo shoot, a huge storm rolled in and fast! We barely had time to get the equipment covered and Tristan covered before everything was soaked. 15 minutes later, it was clear and sunny!

Our next location was a little further up the mountain at the famous Trapper’s Lodge. This lodge is so cool! It is right on the ski run and during the winter, guests are shuttled up the mountain on the snow cats with their luggage. You can even hire a personal chef to cook for you all week while you ski and enjoy the scenery. We had originally scheduled to shoot 2 cheerleaders at the Lodge, but the weather would not hold up. Kara, another rookie to the team, enjoyed the stormy weather in the hot tub at Trapper’s Lodge until another major rain cloud rolled in and we headed down to find an indoor location for Lindsey.

The Ritz Carlton has several Penthouses on the top floors of the hotel that are privately owned. The management of the Penthouses was kind enough to let us shoot Lindsey inside and we were able to stay on scheduled despite the weather! Again, I can’t say enough how accommodating the Ritz Carlton staff has been for our hectic week in Beaver Creek. Really incredible!

Our last shot of the day was Toni. We had been rained out the day before and were hoping for a beautiful sunset after a day of rain and sure enough, we got it! There is a beautiful lookout spot just up the road from the hotel and it was an amazing Broncos Sunset. So many Broncos fans stopped by to watch the shoot along with a few fans of other teams that we converted to the orange and blue.

2012 Calendar Shoot: Day 2

We started Day 2 with a 4:00 am hair and makeup call for Margaret and Heather for a beautiful sunrise shot at Lake Dillon. We were fortunate enough to have our friend Rick donate his sailboat for the morning. First up was Heather on the bow of the sailboat “Mischief” with the Colorado sunrise reflecting off the water. It made for an absolutely gorgeous shot to start off our second day. Next up was Margaret, who posed gracefully in front of the main sail. Her blue and white striped suit certainly fit the nautical theme of the morning shot. Although the weather was chilly, both girls toughed it out and ended up with the perfect Rocky Mountain lake snapshot.

The second photo session of the day was Kristin back in the lobby of our “home base” hotel – the Ritz Carlton. The fireplace was roaring (good thing because it was raining outside!) It was a shot that definitely depicts the entire feel of the Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch.

The third shot of the day was Allyson and Bachelor, a 16 week old St. Bernard puppy. Bachelor, named after Bachelor Gulch, is the 7th “Bachelor” for the Ritz Carlton. The shot took place along side of Ritz Carlton-Bachelor Gulch. Although the puppy was excited (and distracted!), the pictures of Allyson turned out great. It was a fun and playful shot. Not everyone is lucky enough to shoot with a dog let alone a puppy that is as sweet as Bachelor.

Last shot of the day was Toni! Our design team got her all ready to go in her Blue and Orange Broncos bathing suit. She looked absolutely stunning. We brought her up to the top of the mountain for a gorgeous sunset shot and it began to downpour! Although the landscape with the mountains and wildflowers looked gorgeous in the rain, Toni’s hair and makeup wouldn’t hold up so we moved her sunset shot to the next day.

Seven cheerleaders are done shooting and we have another 19 shots to go! All the ladies are looking beautiful and I can’t wait to tell you about all the exciting shots to come!

2012 Cheerleader Calendar Shoot

Day One:
The Ritz Carlton Bachelor’s Gulch is beautiful and the perfect setting (and home base) for our 2012 Denver Broncos Cheerleader Calendar! We can’t thank the Ritz Carlton Bachelor’s Gulch enough for their partnership for this year’s calendar. The staff, service and resort are amazing. Today, we spent the day at the pool, spa and the night time hot spot – the fire pit. Our very first shot today featured a local Vail girl and second year team member- Megan Brooks. Next up, Michelle Sommers – both at the beautiful pool and hot tubs. For our third shot of the day featuring Lauren, we moved to the Spa’s Grotto Room – an incredible place to relax after a massage or spa treatment.

For our last shot of the day, we waited until the sun had set and the fire pit was roaring. We did our best to make sure that all the resort guests had their fill of s’mores (a nightly activity at the fire pit) and then moved in for Lindy’s night shot. Day 1 was a success and we are off to bed for an early morning call time – 4:30 a.m. for hair and make-up as we make our way to Lake Dillon for sunrise on the lake. Dancers Begin Training Camp

After emerging from more than 100 hopefuls who took part in auditions, 26 women began training camp this week in their pursuit of a becoming a Denver Nuggets Dancer. The finalists will take part in four training-camp sessions, with the 18-person team set to be announced on July 25.

Training camp next for Denver Nuggets Dancers finalists

Over the next two weeks, 26 women will experience the dancing equivalent of boot camp.
The payoff will be one of 18 spots with the Denver Nuggets Dancers.

The 26 finalists were selected from of a field of more than 100 candidates who took part in two days of audition at the Pepsi Center on July 9-10. Up next is four days of training camp at Forza Fitness and Performance Club on July 12, 14, 19 and 21.

“Everyone who came out for the auditions was amazing,” said Denver Nuggets Dancers coordinator and choreographer Amy Jo Wagner. “The judges had the difficult task of finding the top 26. We are very excited to see how they perform during training camp.”

Seven of the finalists were members of the 2010-11 Denver Nuggets Dancers, while four others were on the squad in previous seasons.

Wagner emphasized that previous experience with the Nuggets does not guarantee a final spot on the 2011-12 dance team.

“The biggest thing about being a returner is you know what to expect,” Wagner said. “That’s half the battle, being able to prepare yourself mentally for the two weeks ahead. I don’t think (first-time candidates) understand how difficult training camp is.”

Each training-camp session will include a one-hour workout with a personal trainer and two hours of dancing. The finalists learned two dance routines during auditions and will add two more during training camp.

“Four routines is a lot to learn in just two weeks,” Wagner said.

Wagner and a panel of judges will select the final 18 dancers, with the roster scheduled to be announced on July 25.

Girls traveled from near and far to try out and show off their stuff to the judges and possibly make the cut to become one of the elite Denver Nuggets Dancers. And trust us, just watching these girls rehearse their 1st audition piece is exhausting.

This weekend the Nuggets hosted the preliminaries and semi-final dance auditions for new dancers for the 2011-2012 season. Those that make it through this weekend will go through a vigorous training camp next week and then have their final audition on July 21st. These judges have their hands full with talented girls giving it their all, but we're pretty sure they don't hate their jobs. We wouldn't either. Hi Broncos Country, reporting back to you from Tikrit, Iraq. Well, we were supposed to be on a C-130 to Baghdad, but due to a sandstorm we were grounded in Speicher for another day. We had no problem finding something to fill our time. Our military tour guide, Carmen, set up a Special Forces tour for us where we were able to explore the MRAPs (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) and even hang out on the gun range. We were all brave enough to shoot M-9 pistols and a few of us even shot automatic M-4s. After taking several pictures and signing autographs with the Special Forces Unit we made a surprise visit to the soldiers at the car wash and by car wash we mean tank wash! They were so excited to see us.

The new Denver Broncos Cheerleaders have been named!

DENVER -- After a long and difficult tryout process, which included a formal interview and a test of their football knowledge, 26 women have earned the coveted spots on the 2011 Denver Broncos Cheerleaders.

The process began with nearly 150 women who came to the annual auditions. That number was whittled down to 90, then 60, and finally the final 26.

The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders settled on their official squad for the 2011 season Sunday night, well before the NFL even decided if this season will even be played.

Weeks of training, testing and choreography came down to a couple hours of routines staged at Pinnacle Events Center. The huge judging panel was nearly as numerous as the 26-woman squad they picked, but their job still seemed to be a tough one. Ten of the finalists not quite polished (or old) enough to make the Broncos squad were snapped up for the Denver Outlaws dance team.

From tap-dancing to acrobatics, the 60 finalists showed a wide variety of talents and plenty of hard-won skill and pure drive. Now all we need to do is find the NFL some labor negotiators who share those traits. — Matt Farley, Metromix

The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders held their preliminary auditions at INVESCO Field, searching for the final 26 girls to represent the team for the 2011-2012 football season. Hair was curled to perfection and nerves were rattled as 140 cheerleader hopefuls took to the dancefloor in front of a panel of judges.

And don't think the contestants were judged on just high kicks and smiles. The judge's sheet consisted of the girl's numbers and a simple 'yes' or 'no' answer to determine whether or not they moved on to the next round. One judge said they can tell by the eye if they have the skills or not to be a next Denver Broncos Cheerleader. But, there was some truth behind the simplicity of the judging system—some girls definitely knew their moves and others stumbled through the choreography.

The preliminary auditions narrowed the search down to 60—who will then compete in the finals on Sunday, April 10 at The Performing Arts Complex at PCS. And yes, it is open to the public (so get your tickets before the competition is sold-out).

The DDF is owned / produced by Sarah Schachterle and Ken Jimenez. They are only hosting professional groups this year and everyone had to submit a video audition. They received roughly 60 entries and have chosen 10 groups.

Fort Collins, Colorado– April 30, 2011 – Colorado State University walkers and now the Colorado Eagles Chicks go around the clock in the battle against cancer during the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. This celebration of life brings together numerous groups and individuals concerned about cancer in a unified effort to fight back.

Teams of enthusiastic citizens will gather at the CSU Rec Center for an overnight relay from 6:00 pm on April 30, 2011 until 8:00 am on May 1, 2011 that celebrates anyone who has battled cancer, remembers loved ones lost and empowers all to fight back against the disease.

Relay For Life is a unique fundraising event that allows participants from all walks of life — including patients, medical support staff, corporations, civic organizations, faith-based groups and community volunteers — to join together to fight cancer. Relay For Life reminds us that progress has been made in the fight against cancer and that everyone who participates is making a difference.

Relay For Life opens as cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer) take the first lap. This emotional time sets the stage for the importance of each participant's contribution. A festive atmosphere always develops around the track area at Relay For Life events. As participants make new friends and spend time with old ones, the Relay celebration and camp-out begins. Team members come together to celebrate, barbeque, play games and walk the track for a great cause.

The “Fight Back” Ceremony, in which a community leader inspires Relay participants with his/her own commitment to tangibly battle cancer, and he/she challenges them to make a personal pledge to take action (e.g., stop smoking, eat more healthily, exercise regularly, etc.)

Highlighting the evening is the Luminaria Ceremony, held after dark to honor cancer survivors and to remember those who have lost the battle against cancer. Hundreds of luminaria (bags filled with sand and a lit candle) line the track and are left burning throughout the night to remind participants of the incredible importance of their contributions.

The funds raised will enable us to continue our investment in the fight against cancer through educational programs, research and services to patients. Fourteen years ago, Jana Blue fell in love. Not with a boy or some childhood crush, though. She found her passion- her heart song, if you will. Through lessons and endless practice, Jana realized that she could pursue her love and that it would stay with her for the rest of her life. Fast-forward to today and Jana has combined that childhood passion with charm, grace and a determination that has landed her a spot as LoDo Magazine’s March It Girl.

During the daily 9-5 grind, Jana works her “money maker” job as she calls it. She works as an administrative assistant at Acxiom Corporation. Acxiom is a data solutions company (if you don’t know what that means, you probably don’t have any data that needs solutions). Jana enjoys managing the office, but when work lets out its time to let her hair down and get on dance floor.

Remember the passion that began fourteen years ago? Well, it's dance. Dance, I said (got a little Salt-N-Pepa running through your brain right about now?). Jana has been dancing professionally for several years and absolutely loves it. She was a child with lots of energy and dancing was the one thing that slowed her down and kept her from going a million miles a minute. “It’s where you forget about all the unfair things you went through in the day- the haste and requirements of being an adult,” she says.

If you’ve been to the Pepsi center for a Nuggets game or happened to a catch a Denver Outlaws game in the past couple of years then chances are you’ve seen Jana Blue. She’s danced for both teams in 2009 and 2010. Jana is reaching for the next rung in the dance ladder this year however as she will be auditioning to be a Denver Broncos cheerleader. With the announcement of the return of John Elway to the team in January, Jana is super thrilled and hopes to have many years of success cheering the team on to a future Super Bowl victory.

Jana also works on the production side of dance and has begun choreographing as well. She has worked with local artist Adam Duncan and also has been performing for the past year as part of the John Gillette crew.

Being a dancer means staying in great shape and that shape and Jana’s ability to move has caught the eye of many a local photographer. Dancing has led her to start a modeling career and even though Jana stands only five foot six inches (okay- she says 5’ 6.5”) she has done several professional shoots and will be in her first runway show this month. Through dance and modeling, Jana has also found representation with a local agency as a petite model.

Dancing has also led her to volunteer work as the dance groups she works with often spends time giving back to the community. Most recently, Jana and her fellow dancers spent the day with patients at Craig Hospital, the largest spinal chord and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation facility in the country. Jana said that her time there made a big impact on her, “I’ve been able to meet some great people who share this earth with us, and they have done nothing short of touch my heart.”

Whether she's dancing, modeling or doing admin work, it's clear to us that Jana Blue is still going a million miles a minute.

Denver's Damsels troupe dances to make the world a better place

Katrina Lairsmith had taught dance in nearly every studio in Denver, but in all her time as an instructor — and as one of the original Denver Nuggets dancers — she never found a group that fit her style or mission.

"Other than Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, there was no real contemporary jazz dance company doing what we wanted," said the founder and artistic director of Damsels Contemporary Dance Company. "And finding the amount of talented dancers that had that same vision — that wasn't easy because really good dancers want to get paid."

Of course they do. But Lairsmith's company, which will return this weekend after a five-year hiatus, isn't shy about its goals — or the fact that it doesn't pay its dancers. Damsels is dedicated to raising money and awareness for women's issues, and each of the company's performances benefits a different women's organization.

Damsels' newest show, "State of the Union," debuts at Cleo Parker Robinson Theatre on Saturday, with all proceeds going to Denver nonprofit shelter A Gathering Place.

"It's Denver's only daytime drop- in shelter for women, children and transgender individuals, which is important because a lot of these women have nowhere to go," said Mary Johnston, executive director of the Damsels and a former Denver Broncos cheerleader. "They might ride the bus all night or live in their cars, so there really is a need there."

The 18 Damsels performing this weekend are an all-female crew composed of former Nuggets and Broncos dancers, former students at Lairsmith's Colorado Contemporary Dance Studio and others from around town.

"I basically had a lot of dancers that were over 18 coming to class and wanting to dance," Lairsmith said. "There was no real outlet for them."

Lairsmith, who studied in L.A. with "So You Think You Can Dance" judge Mia Michaels, among others, has taught dancers who have gone on to work for pop stars (Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake) and dance in Broadway shows such as "Billy Elliot: The Musical."

Her choreography is more nuanced than the flashy, matching moves of halftime entertainers and cheerleaders.

"I can see what the perception would be when hearing that I'm a former Nuggets dancer, or that a lot of (the Damsels) are Nuggets or Broncos dancers," Lairsmith said. "But they're all professional dancers, and pretty much everybody teaches currently."

As the Damsels' nonprofit mission and edgy, sexy look implies, it's more about expression than conformity.

"Broncos and Nuggets dancing is about the team and everybody looking the same," Johnston said. "The Damsels is more about letting the individuals shine with solos and small groups, so it's more free-flowing and almost exactly the opposite of what those dance teams would be."

Still, the regimen of dancing for a professional sports team — rehearsing 12 hours a week, going over the same moves hundreds of times — can't help but inform the group's sense of discipline and energy.

"It's so nice to have some young blood in there," Johnston said of the mostly new members of the company. "They're willing to volunteer for anything and always ready for whatever we throw at them."

State of the Union - Damsels

Come see The Damsels first show of the year, State of the Union. The Damsels are a Denver based contemporary dance company dedicated to raising awareness for issues women face in the US today. Show times are Saturday March 5th at 8pm and Sunday March 6th at 5pm.

Tickets will be $15 and can be purchased online here.

All proceeds will benefit The Gathering Place, Denver's only daytime drop in center for homeless women, their children, and transgender individuals.

This week's NLL.com Girl of the Week, Alexis, hails from the Wild Bunch in Colorado. Kelsey recently weighed in with NLL.com on a variety of different subjects, ranging from the fans at the Pepsi Center to Brian Langtry's flow.

NLL.com: Where did you go to school?
Alexis: I graduated from Grandview High School! Go Wolves! I studied Special Education at The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

NLL.com: Where do you currently reside?
Alexis: In Denver, the best city in the WORLD!

NLL.com: What dancing experience do you have? How did you get started?
Alexis: I started dancing when I was 13 years old at Dance Intensity! I was trained in Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Poms. Hip Hop is my favorite style of dance. I was also on the Poms squad in high school.

NLL.com: What do you do when you're not cheering on the Mammoth at the Pepsi Center?
Alexis: I also Volunteer at the Johnson Adult Day Program, a program for individuals who have neurological changes and physical disabilities. It is so much fun! I get to dance and sing songs all day and be a goof ball with some amazing people!

NLL.com: How would you describe yourself? How do you think friends would describe you?
Alexis: I would describe myself as very outgoing and hardworking. My friends would probably describe me as very energetic and say that no matter where I am or if there is music or not I am always dancing!!

NLL.com: What is your biggest pet peeve?
Alexis: My biggest pet peeve would probably be rude people. I believe that having a kind heart and a genuine attitude is worth far more than a pretty face.

NLL.com: What is your favorite part of cheering on the Mammoth?
Alexis: The energy from the fans. We really do have the best fans in the league. Hearing them cheer the Wild Bunch and the team on really makes all the hard work preparing for the games worth it!

NLL.com: Who is your favorite Mammoth player? Any reason in particular?
Alexis: I would probably pick Mac Allen because he is in Law school, and a professional athlete. I think the fact that he is able to balance both is a really admirable accomplishment. It's really awesome, we have such a well-rounded group of guys out there. However, Brian Langtry does come in a close second because of his "sick flow."

NLL.com: What's the best part of the NLL?
Alexis: The fan loyalty! NLL games are much different from other sports because the same fans show up every game to cheer us on. We get to know the fans, and they get to know us. It's a much closer bond I feel than some of the other sports get. Sort of like a big, huge, loud rowdy family. I love it!

NLL.com: If you could say one thing to the fans in Colorado, what would it be?
Alexis: You are the absolute best! You are the reason I show up every single day! I appreciate every single fan that voted for me, and that comes to the games! I love you guys!! Go Mammoth!

NLL.com: Finish the sentence. The Wild Bunch is...
Alexis: Not as wild as you would think! We actually are all very professional at practice, and work very hard. We have a great group of 14 talented, beautiful, smart and loving girls! We all get along so well, and really help each other out. I am so proud of the girls I work with out on that field!

Alexis: With my family!

Alexis: My step-mom Kathy. She is the most amazing person in the world!

2011 Denver Broncos Cheerleader Auditions begin Sunday April 3, 2011!

Letter from Teresa Shear, Director of Cheerleaders:

Yes, it is that time of year again! Auditions are right around the corner and I wanted to fill everyone in on the details for 2011 as well as dates, times, workshops and everything you will need to know to prepare you to have the best audition possible.

For 2011, the audition will select 26 members to the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders and select 10 women to the Denver Outlaws Dance Team. The Outlaws Dance Team is open to women ages 18 and up. Both teams will be selected from the finalists from the audition process. The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders will only select women 21 and up by the deadlines listed on the audition forms (PDF).

The process will be very similar to last season's audition. Our preliminary round will consist of a short combination (4 eight counts) of basic dance technique. A turn, a leap, right and left kicks and simple choreography will be taught on the spot and participants will perform that combination for the judges in groups of three. After all participants have performed, 100 participants will be selected to move on that day to the Semi-Finals.

During the Semi-Final round, the participants will be taught a routine very similar to routines performed on game day by the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders. Again, the choreography will be taught on the spot and the semi-finalists will perform in groups of 3 for our panel of judges. The field will be narrowed down to 60-70 women who will be our finalists for both the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders and the Denver Outlaws.

The biggest change for 2011 is that workshops will only last one week instead of two weeks. Finalists will be evaluated over the next week in a series of workshops on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Finalists will be interviewed, tested on football knowledge, judged on work ethic during rehearsals and observed on interaction with the other finalists during the process.

We are excited to once again open up our final night of Auditions to the public. Last year we hosted a sold out crowd of 500 and this year we expect the turn out to be even larger so buy your tickets early. The evening is full of entertainment, from the opening group number, to the beautiful kickline sequence, solos by the finalists, performances in groups of 3 on more technical choreography, and a final performance by the new 2011 Denver Broncos Cheerleaders. It is a fun night for all ages!

Colorado Ice Icicles Auditions this Sunday

The Colorado Ice will be conducting open auditions for Icicle cheerleaders on Sunday, January 30th, 2011 from 1 pm to 5 pm at the 24 Hour Fitness located at 2208 E.Harmony Road, Fort Collins, CO 80528.

Colorado Icicle cheerleaders are professional dancers that provide exciting and fun entertainment during all Colorado Ice home games. Icicle cheerleaders are also actively involved in the community, taking part in Ice appearances at community events, fundraisers, post-game parties, and other activities throughout Northern Colorado.

Participants must be at least 21 years of age by Feb. 17, 2011, have some dance experience and be able to commit to weekly rehearsals, games and related team functions. Individuals auditioning should wear spandex shorts, tights, a spandex bra top and some type of dance shoes.

Auditions fees are $30 the day of the try-outs and $25 for pre-registered participants if paid by January 27th, 2011. Pre-registered participants may pay with cash, check, or credit card; only cash will be accepted the day of the tryout.

What prompted you to want to become a Laker Girl? I’ve been a dancer my entire life and from a young age, knew of the Laker Girls dance team and what it meant to me, to become one. Early on, I established auditioning for the Laker Girls and making the team as one of my key goals as a dancer. Plus, I love sports!!

What do you think stood out to the judging panel, about you, regarding your audition? I think the judges could tell from my dance audition that I was really passionate about the possibility of getting this job. It had truly been a lifelong goal. Also, in my interview, I think they could see that I understood what it takes to be a member of a professional dance team, having had prior experience.

What do you think makes a good Laker Girl? Being a Laker Girl requires dedication, attention to detail and having excellent time management! We are very busy. I also think a good Laker Girl shows a willingness to be involved in the Los Angeles community. We have the opportunity to meet just about every walk of life in Los Angeles through our charities and appearances. Not to mention, it is a tremendous opportunity to connect with fans and serve as an ambassador for the Lakers organization and NBA. Also, perhaps the most obvious about being a good Laker Girl…… is being a fan of the Lakers!

What is your dance experience? I’ve been a dancer since I was 3 years old and started with ballet training. I attended ballet-centric dance academies until I was about 11 and then started to add jazz, contemporary, hip hop and tap into my training as well.

Favorite dance routine, while being a Laker Girl? My favorite dance while being a Laker Girl was one we did my first year called “Show Me” by Janet Jackson. It’s that cool, hip, trendy sort of jazz that I don’t really get to perform that often.

Favorite uniform? My favorite uniform is one that we call “Purple Mesh.” It’s a skirt and a top that are made of white and purple mesh (naturally, hence the name) with rhinestones. I feel very girly and glamorous when we get to wear that one!

Favorite Lakers Player? Pau Gasol

Favorite Laker Girl memory so far? My favorite memory would have to be the parade and rally after we won the first of our most recent back-to-back championships. The fans during the parade were SO happy that the Lakers were able to return the title to its rightful home in Los Angeles. And the rally at the Coliseum was something I will never forget! Dancing on the transplanted STAPLES Center court at the Coliseum with 90,000+ fans celebrating together literally gave me goose bumps!

What do you like most about being involved, as a Laker Girl, at local charity/community events? The appreciation we get from the fans. Everyone is so happy that we are able to lend our time to help them, but we are just as thrilled to be there helping them out.

What would you say is your beauty secret? Wash your face every night and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!!

What diet/workout tips do you have? Try to find something that works for you and stick with it. I am a huge supporter of “everything in moderation”. Do not feel deprive yourself, or you will end up going crazy. Also, everyone knows, or should by now, that including workouts several times a week will help you achieve your goals and stay healthy.

What are your hobbies? I like playing golf (I won a long-drive contest when I was 7!!), tennis, board/yard games and keeping my dog, Jack, happy!

Career aspirations? Laker Girls has given me the opportunity to be an in-game “Lakers TV Host”, which has made me realize how much I enjoy on-camera work. I’d love to be a host, reporter or broadcaster some day in the sports or entertainment world.

Blush Dance Team Auditions

We are auditioning for new members for Blush Pro Dance Team Saturday January 15 at 3pm.

Blush is a Pro Contemporary Burlesque team that opens for concerts, fashion shows, pageants and headlines events throughout the state. Our style is a combination of jazz, hip hop and traditional burlesque (performance) dance. The team practices every Thursday at 9pm and performs an average of 2-3 times per month. Most performances are paid.
